Discussion of 2009 Events
i) 100th year of powered flight:
Objective: RFC 100th year of flight specific events
Trip to Baddeck:
discussion: when to go, trips by others J. Loveless, length of time, # of club a/c.
Result: for August, allot 7 days, planning meeting to follow soon. Action: Nicole will compile information on Baddeck, re; activities, accommodations, availability etc.
Time capsule:
Simon discussed the motivation for the time capsule, to be opened in 50yrs. 2 time capsules one to be kept at RFC one to be flown to Baddeck. (On going legacy, to be noted in RFC bylaws, opened and replaced every 50 yrs)
Action: Bill offered to machine the time capsules. Will require dimensions (capable of fitting in the cargo area of a C172).
Action: Nicole will contact Bell Museum, Baddeck or other to discuss the deposition of the time capsule in Baddeck.
ii) Precision Flying seminar
Objective: to provide information and opportunities for practising/participating.
Discussion: Simon explained the history of precision flying in Canada, the training and competition.
Result: Date in May
Action: Simon to talk to Kathy regarding setting a date for the seminar, weekend date preferred.
iii) Weekend Trips:
Objective: to provide day or weekend flying activity
Discussion of trips: Sun and Fun, Oshkosh, Washington, Mass, Chicago. For the US: Simon reviewed the current regulations for people entering the US via rented a/c. Pilots and Pax entering US require passport and signed statement re: criminal record status. Impact: longer processing time to consider when planning trips.
Result: Day or o/n trip to William T Piper Memorial Airport, PA in June 17-20 http://www.sentimentaljourneyfly-in.com.
Action: to follow up at next meeting
iv) ‘local’ Day trips:
Objective: to provide a network of pilots, particularly for newly minted pilots, looking for places to fly (for food).
Discussion of fly-ins, $100 hamburger destinations, i.e. Lachute, Halliburton, Smith Falls, St. Hebert, others
Result: RFC Breakfast Club, beginning in May two Sundays a month, one RFC a/c will be reserved. To encourage student participation, Simon offered to participate at no additional cost to the student.
Action: Nicole to determine breakfast date and forward these to Simon for a/c booking.
Nicole investigate modes to advertise this event to the membership, email, website etc.
v). FBSL competitions
Objective: to provide flying activities at the airport
Discussion: see above
Result: Again in combination with the volunteer BBQ; date TBA pending the dates of Baddeck trip.
Action: earlier second date, Simon to determine other club activity to match it with.
