Click on the following picture and try to spot C-FJBN flying over La Cité collégiale.  It is not easy to spot it out because its color is melting with its background.  Send me an e-Mail with your comments.  Thanks

The pictures shown in this article were taken from a video tape used by a team from the college’s Television and Movies program.

The members of that team were :

 Vanessa Forget, Marie-Claude Plante,

Karine Proulx and Claudine Leblanc

Who is not looking up when an airplane is flying around?  Even the most sceptical one can’t resist deep inside, and dream like a kid.

Being at the controls of an airplane provides a feeling of freedom and gives to the recreational pilots, moments of unforgettable experiences.  Those pilots are not only experiencing joys of flying, they do this while sharing their passion with people around them.

For example, members of the

Rockcliffe Flying Club are in many occasion, participating to the community and socials event.

Picnics, Canada Day, Air shows, Young Eagles Days, Charity funds raising days are all kind of activities that are regularly organized at the Rockcliffe airport.  There are also other activities that are held at the airport but are not necessarily announced, those may for some people, representing an « A+ » in their studying program that they have decided to do in order to well start a career that should be as interesting as aviation.  I am speaking here about the students from La Cité collégiale Television and Movies program in Ottawa.

We receive inquiries regularly from students of that program to help them create videos on the world of aviation.  On November 9 and 16 of 2002, Simon Garrett, Jean René de Cotret and I, were honoured to host 2 groups of that college.

This was for me, an unforgettable experience. I had no idea at all of what was behind the scene while creating video report of only a few minutes.  In order to do this story the students and I had spent over a half day together answering their questions, introducing them to our pilot community and giving them some airplane rides, so they can take video camera shots from the air and on the ground.  As far as I was concerned, I was lucky to host at the Ottawa Rockcliffe Flying Club, Vanessa, Karine, Marie-Claude and Claudine, who are all four of them in their final year of study at le “Cité”.

They really knew what they were doing those girls.  The list of questions was ready and without realising it, the sound equipment system was installed and adjusted and the angles for the screen shots were chosen.  The first question was, « How do you manage stress when you're flying? » I was so nervous to answer this question in front of the camera that I answered it with all kind of things not related at all such as « Playing ping-pong, walking around the airplane, preparing my flight plan, etc… ».  They realized immediately that I was uncomfortable and they did what was necessary to make me feel good, giving me some advices with their great smile.  Finally, at the end of the interview, they asked me in a joking way « Are you still too nervous to give us some airplane rides? » Those words were for me… Magical.  Somewhat a strange question to ask to a pilot…Hey!  Simon and I quicly checked our airplanes and we were in the air in the following minutes in a flying formation pattern with two Cessna 150s « C-FJBN and C-FFXT ».

An other question was « What is a perfect day for you in Aviation? » And I answered something like « To land on a field full of daisy flowers with my girl friend, taking some apples from the threes and then, to fly back at sunset over the Ottawa river ».  I have to admit that the day that I spent with those students is now counting as one of those perfect days for me.  A day where the sun was at the “rendez-vous”, with persons who had a lot of dreams and ideas, and who would be our next generation of reporters traveling around the world in order to inform us and let us understand how important we are to each other.  That’s not all, they thanked us at the end of the day by giving us a nice bottle of wine.  Really!  La “Cité” can be very proud of their students and about the image that they are propagating in the community when they do their projects.

Those young women’s jewel (video report) was made to be shown on T.V.  Of course this a jewel!  Well, you know! JBN, my airplane, is in that story J  I am proud of this, but I am more proud of having teamed up with Simon while contributing to the development and the success of young peoples in their career choice.  Congratulation girls, this is a good start.  You deserve more than a perfect score for your reportage, you also helped us to better inform others about the world of Recreational Aviation and at the same time, about our Flying Club.

If you want to see this reportage and other additional air shots taken by this team, you can borrow the videotape at the front desk of the Rockcliffe Flying Club. The story will be presented on the Rogers community channel on February 2003.

Here are two video shots taken by the students. The first movie shot is showing C-FJBN and C-FFXT taking off in formation, and the second movie is showing C-FJBN flying over “La Cité collégiale”.  It is interesting to observe and listento the sound in that movie shot.  C-FFXT window was open and the wind blowing in the microphone of the camera gives the impression that it was a jet engine running, and the background that is moving in a different direction of the airplane gives the impression that C-FJBN became a TopGun fighting jet J.
